AZZURRA

A Jazz bassline, a Soul vocal, a Hip Hop beat, and that's a spicy meatball! Her debut single 'The Price of Fame' is a satirical attack at the lengths people go to on the pursuit to fame and fortune.

BIO

Born in Melbourne, Azzurra was introduced to music through her immigrant parents and her older siblings. Her mum, being an enthusiast of vintage film and music, inspired Azzurra’s love for the arts, while her father, who adored rock & roll and blues, and was the lead singer and guitarist of an Italian band, further fuelled her passion for music.

Her childhood was vibrant, filled with encounters of a diverse array of people who frequented her family’s Italian restaurant. Late nights were commonplace, accompanied by the lively sounds of an Italian band blasting down the streets of Carlton or their suburban home and endless festas with staff, friends and family.

This rich environment shaped Azzurra's eclectic musical taste from an early age, introducing her to the sounds of Aretha Franklin, Etta James, The Supremes, Nina Simone, Italian folk music, Led Zeppelin, Ray Charles, Lauryn Hill, and countless others. Inspired by this diverse array of influences, she aspired to become a singer.

Azzurra began dance classes and singing lessons and was completely taken by the stage. She would study the greats and try to mimic dance moves and vocal tone. Azzurra was compelled to be a performer and loved how music could inspire and transform emotions or beliefs.

In school she joined both the school orchestra and rock band and grew an intense love for rap & hip hop.

She began performing as a lead vocalist with live bands, and dancing in hip hop groups. By 2009, her dance talent gained recognition when she received a half scholarship to travel to Los Angeles to complete intensive dance training with world-renowned dancers.

After that she began to study full time dance in Melbourne at Todd Patrick Performing Arts School, which was a combination of all styles of dance and contemporary vocal training. While training she performed in many venues around Melbourne; including Crown palladium, The National Theatre, and Melbourne Town Hall, while also performing in venues around Sydney, Brisbane and Italy.

Alongside her artistic pursuits, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music, majoring in songwriting and vocals. During this time, she worked at her family's restaurant as a manager, taught singing and dance classes, and frequently organised live music nights for the restaurant's patrons.

For many years Azzurra has worked towards her songwriting, vocals and performance skills and now that her family’s restaurant has been put to rest, she has come into her own as an independent music artist. Azzurra is most known for her empowering songs, passionate stage presence and her distinctive soulful vocal tone.

Now fully in her element, Azzurra brings soul, and serious vocal tone, delivering music that hits hard, and refuses to be ignored. Her debut single, 'The Price of Fame,' delivers just that!

'The Price of Fame' was born out of shear frustration that music on the radio is starting to all sound too similar. It pokes fun at creativity becoming an endeavour for money making rather than an expressive tool. It satirically points out people doing anything on their pursuit to being desired and famous! It offers an observation on a society that preaches individuality within the constraints of a boxed in perception of what that actually means and the subliminal brainwashing of what is acceptable in the mainstream.
